Based on an idea by Fiona Hover in the UK and with additional input from Geoff Cook in Australia. This program is a simple tool to help make sentences. There are sentence files included with the program and there is a facility to add your own. Basically the player chooses a sentence file from a drop down list. This file contains one or more sentences and the first of the list is displayed on screen broken up into words. The words are jumbled up and the player clicks on the words in order to make up that sentence. Other features of the program include audio instructions as well as the on screen text directions and an optional student statistic facility to keep track of how well a student is progressing. The edit/add sentence and student statistic facilities can be password protected.
Program includes an uninstall facility.
Compressed file size - 1.47MB.

On the opening screen you will find a Play button and a Speaker Icon. When you first run Sentence Builder, the audio help (me speaking basic instructions) is turned on. To turn this feature off, including when the program is run again, simply click on the Speaker Icon and it will be covered with a red cross. To turn audio help back on, just click it again.
The screen is divided into 15 blocks with the Speaker Icon in the top left hand corner. Turn audio help on and off as explained above. In the middle top of the screen is a drop down list of all the available sentence files. To choose one, drop down the box and highlight an entry. The words of the first sentence of that file will then appear in some of the 15 boxes. To play the game you have to re-build the original sentence by clicking on each word in the correct order. Each correct word will then appear in the yellow box at the bottom of the screen.
Each correct word chosen scores 10 points and this is shown at the bottom of the screen along with the number of the sentence you are working on and how many sentences are in the chosen file. On the left bottom of the screen is a Quit button. In the middle is a New File button, which can be clicked at any time to choose a new file. On the right is a Next button which can only be clicked on when each sentence has been completed. When all sentences in the file have been completed, then this button changes into a Try Again button giving you the opportunity to have another go at that file.
The background and text colour can be changed by clicking on one of the small buttons at the top of the screen. The top left button is for changing the background colour and the top right for altering the text colour. Click on either button and a colour chooser chart will appear. Click on the required colour and then on the OK button. This will save that colour for every future session of Sentence Builder.
Edit/Create Sentence Files Screen & Student Stats
On this screen you can edit the sentence files and add new ones of your own. There is also a password protect feature to prevent any unauthorised changing of the sentence files and a student statistics option. When the student statistics option is activated, anyone playing the game will be faced with a log-in box at the front of the program where they will be asked to type in their name. Any activity within the program is then stored automatically under that name and basic stats such as how many correct answers, wrong answers, files tried etc., are shown in a log which can be viewed by clicking the Access Student Statistics button on the Edit Screen. To turn on or off the password or student stats features use the check boxes at the bottom of this screen.
To use the edit screen, just load up a sentence file from the drop down list as on the main screen. You can scroll through the sentences using the back and forward arrow buttons. To save any sentence, click the Save This Sentence button. Click on the Create New File Of Sentences button to make a new file. This will produce a dialogue box to enter a name for your file. Please remember that you are limited to 15 words for each sentence. There is a rudimentary check to try and prevent sentences of more than 15 words being added.
When you make your first score a Certificate scroll will appear on the top right of the main screen. Clicking it will take you to the Certificate screen where you can print out a certificate and/or save it for printing out at a later time. Also, in the top menu under Options you can move to the Certificate screen at any time, showing your progress so far. To save a certificate click on the Save button and enter a name for it in the dialogue window that appears. To open an old certificate click the Open button and choose your file from the browser window that appears. To move back to the game you were playing and the current score, click the Back button in the bottom left of the screen.
Please note that the save feature does not save a game score to continue with, it just saves your certificate.
