Just like my Times Tables program except that you must divide rather than multiply to find the answer. You can choose to work through each table from 1 to 12 or you can choose a single table to try. In both modes you can try each table as many times as you like either in ordinary or random (see below). Clicking on the right mouse button in any level lets you restart that time’s table.
First of all you must either Load A Saved Game or Start A New Game by clicking one of the two buttons. If you choose Start A New Game then a small box will appear with space for you to type in your full name. When you click OK, then this name will be used to record your progress through Divide Tables whether you choose to do just one table or the whole lot. You do not need to save anything at anytime as the program will do this automatically. Even if you close the program after completing a table you will find that your progress has been saved when you choose Check Progress, View Certificate from the top menu. If you choose Load A Saved Game then a small window will appear showing a list of previously saved files. The file names are the full names that were entered when a player filled in the box after clicking Start A New Game. Either double left click the file name or single click and choose Open. Your name should then appear in the black message box near the bottom of the screen and you will be able to see how far you have got before by choosing Check Progress, View Certificate from the top menu.
After you have "logged in" by either loading a saved game or starting a new game you will see two more buttons, Play From Tables 1 - 12 and Choose A Table. Clicking Play From Tables 1 - 12 takes you to the Divide By One Table to start, while clicking Choose A Table, displays 12 more buttons, one for each table. You then click on the one of your choice.
There are two ways of completing each level/table.
Click on this grey button and each box on the grid turns green, stepping up one at a time up to 12, as you choose the answer numbers below the table, by clicking on the one you think goes in that box. If you make a mistake you will be asked to try again. There is no penalty for this and indeed you can select to start again yourself by right mouse clicking. Practice makes perfect!
This method is the same as level 1 but the green question box appears at random on the grid. If you complete the table by this method you will be awarded a much higher merit award on your certificate. The highest award of "Distinction" will be given if you complete the level by this method in under 30 seconds (no cheating please), hence the appearance of a timer.
To make things a little more tricky there are wild card numbers at each level, which are not the right answers.
You can press "C" or choose Check Progress, View Certificate from the top menu at anytime to take you to the certificate but try and get as far as you can in the tables before you select this option. It shows your progress and your name, which is taken from the saved game or the box you filled in at the beginning. You can print this out by clicking the print button in the bottom right hand corner. You can also press the back arrow button on the certificate page, which will take you back to where you were in the game. You can also choose Choose A Table from the top menu under Application, which will take you back to the opening screen where you can choose a new table. Choosing New Game in the top menu will also take you back to the opening screen but the game will have been restarted so you will have to log in again. When you close the program your certificate ratings will be saved but please do keep practising the ones you know as it really does help in later life if you know them off by heart.
